I've heard that Google gives their employees the ability to book something like 10% or 20% of their time to work on personal projects that relate to the organization. Many of the Google services we use now came from these personal projects.

If and when I become king of the world, I'm going to encourage my employees to book at least a half day a week to work on a personal project which connects to the work, be it a project development, a blog, time to read/explore information - whatever. We need time to think, and I believe that time should be embedded into the job description if possible.
