Virtual-ly Free Videoconferences
February 7, 2008
Paula and I just finished our TCEA Session. It was a jam-packed 45 minute whirlwind. No interactions, just us running through every free provider, student project, classroom collaboration and teacher demo we knew.
We had about 150 in our session and it was a mixed group: teachers, media specialists, campus techs, technology directors, campus administrators, regional coordinators, and two that claimed “other”. About 40% of the group had done some type of videoconference. Afterwards, I talked to several who had equipment and didn’t know what to do with it.
I can still remember that feeling of I sorta knew what to do with it, but didn’t know where to find partners or how to design projects. I am thankful to have been taught by so many who have shared with me and encouraged me. It is our responsibility to share our knowledge with others as they begin their distance learning programs.
Here is the wiki page for the links. Thanks to all who attended. You are welcome to use our information and documents, all we ask is that you point them back to our sites. I know that if you are new, you won’t have your own pictures or examples to use.
Enjoy the wiki page, the videos linked are all YouTube. If you really want one that is on YouTube, use a converter to save it and then you can use it for presentations, etc.
And finally, I will be doing a half-day pre-conference workshop at NECC and it will deal with creating, managing, and supporting teachers in student projects and classroom collaborations. I didn’t have time to show all the supportive technologies and the RSS feeds which enable Shane and me to manage the projects. Shane will be an IVC Showcase at NECC sharing his avatars, singing, and etiquette tips.
