McDonald Observatory to Train Teachers

Date February 13, 2008

This just popped into my Google alerts.

The University of Texas at Austin McDonald Observatory has been awarded a grant of about $190,000 from NASA to train teachers across the state in science education. The project will develop, test and implement professional development workshops for 500 Texas teachers of grades 3-8 that will be delivered via videoconference. Read complete press release.

This is awesome! Last month we partnered with our science specialists and flew a couple of e-Missions to introduce our science teachers to videoconferencing. Now, this group of teacher in the regional collaboratives will be able to receive training from McDonald Observatory.

We have been anxiously awaiting more content from McDonald Observatory since their inaugural event last September. They have an amazing presenter who is so animated and engaging with students.  Let’s cross our fingers that they also begin doing more student events.
