Holiday Extravaganza: Day 3 and Beyond!
December 7, 2007
Rudolph and Santa were a HUGE hit with our youngest students. Remember, we changed our Holidays Around the World so that it would be more appropriate for PreK-2nd grade students.
We planned on two days, but have now finished three days and Rudolph will add a few command performances on Monday.
Santa and Rudolph’s Numbers: 2,972 students
(We know Rudolph will put us over 3,000 students on Monday.)
What worked well
- We served a LOT of students. Many of the connections were first-timers.
- Shane scheduled each connection separately so that we could have a record of all our work. We dialed out to sites and it worked well.
- Registration was web-based and simple for end-users.
Areas for Improvement
- Need a good way to record sessions.
- Need more time for off-network rooms and sites.
- Need more than 15 minutes if two sites are included.
- Registrations should flow into a database instead of email. (We had email issues!)
Now, I would love to hear from teachers and building coordinators.
What did you and your students think about Rudolph and Santa?

My question is: why did we send class lists if Santa didn’t talk with the students? The teachers were disappointed that the student names were not used. The children didn’t really seem to know that they were “talking” to Santa since he didn’t talk back to them individually. I would have liked to have seen this instead of the “prancing like a reindeer” and “singing like a mouse.” If Santa had talked to individual kids it would have been just as good as the one we paid for last year! It was a good first effort, though, and I think overall the kids enjoyed it.
Loved the video conferences. The kids had a wonderful time.
Did not have any problesms — everything went smoothly.
I will definitely have to send ya’ll kolaches.
Love the numbers you’re upto. You are an inspiration to us alll!!
The students enjoyed the video with Rudolph. They like the fact they were able to participate in the singing and the actions they were aloud to do.
The children really enjoyed it. It was a new and exciting experience for them.
(I loved the books that Santa read).
All of the teachers at Bethune here in Temple loved it. It was much better than last years “Vsiting With Santa”. To me the, singing with Rudolph was the big susccess. The P-K students really enjoyed singing with him.
Our kids had a GREAT time and loved participating. They loved getting to talk to Rudolph and ask him questions. They also liked getting to hear all of his jokes. THANKS and Merry Christmas!
