Mr. Shane and The New Monitor
November 27, 2007
I snapped this picture just because it is funny to see the remote site sideways on Shane’s fancy, schmancy, new monitor!
Every time I see Shane do a session of “Singing With Shane”, I am reminded of the scene from the Wizard of Oz. In today’s world of videoconferencing and invisible work, most of us are known by our web presence or our on camera personalities.
I think it is important for us to share how we run the programs that we do so that others can replicate them.
Videoconferencing in K-12 education is an unusual space in the educational environment. We really don’t fit squarely with the curriculum people and really don’t fit with educational technology people, either.
The most effective way to learn about curriculum videoconferencing is to work within a community of practice. The newbies coming in learn from those who have been working in the field with ever increasing responsibilities and leadership.
How do you contribute to the K-12 community of practice?

shane and roxanne are awesome. they have so much knowledge and dont mind sharing. my students learn so much more when they are engaged in this project . if the brass is reading this they need a raise. thanks roxanne for talking me down from a nervous breakdown over scheduling the bbc and shiloh. this work can be stressful but the reward at the end is worth every minute. love you guys. g taylor
Gina, it is our pleasure to work with teachers like you! Your enthusiasm and passion for your subject and students is apparent in all you do. It would just spoil us if they gave us more money!
