Bluebonnet Conference: Nov. 9-8:30 AM
November 26, 2007
We finished our Bluebonnet Conference the week before Thanksgiving and I was amazed at the quality of the student presentations. Here is a quick recap of the 20 presentations. These are great examples of “curriculum videoconferencing“.
Mr. Bone’s Class-Roxie and the Hooligans
Kim Pearce masquerades as different teachers during this project. She is the reading teacher for 6th grade and does this project with all of her classes. The first presentation included full costumes and set changes. New this year were some amazing sound effects including a “beep-beep-beep” of a garbage truck backing up and a great airplane flying overhead.
Mrs. Foster’s Class-Earth Dragon Awakes
Mrs. Foster’s class continues to showcase the integration of other content areas into reading and technology! They shared earthquake facts during their presentation. The concluding scene was an actual demonstration of how buildings respond differently during an earthquake depending on the type of land they are built on. One set was built on Jell-O and the other was built on sand. The students shook the table and we could see the building crumble like a miniature earthquake.
Mrs. Robinson’s Class-Down Girl & Sit
Another creative presentation with students asking FACT or FICTION questions to engage the other students. She also had a group of three students who were “The Rapping Rottweilers” that were hilarious. I always enjoy seeing Mrs. Robinson’s class because she and the students are comfortable with the technology and are able to videoconference from their classroom.
Mrs. Washburn’s Class-Year of the Dog
Mrs. Washburn did a great job in her first year participating with us. She had two classes participate and used the same book for both classes and the same presentation. This is a great way to have engaging experiences for multiple classes. She used a black backdrop with the school name on it and students stood in front of it to share their speaking parts. Each pair of students had speaking parts and props to help communicate their message.
