Bluebonnet Conference: Nov. 16 at 8:30 AM
November 26, 2007
We had a full house today with five presentations. They just get better and better! I love that we sometimes have two presentations of the same book and we really see teacher creativity at its best.
Mrs. Omenson’s Class-Double Identity

Another first-year Bluebonnet teacher did a great job with this presentation. She did a really cool thing between scene transitions. A student would walk up really close to the camera with a poster board with the scene name on it so we couldn’t see what was going on behind the poster board.
Mrs. Washburn’s Class-Year of the Dog
Here was Mrs. Washburn’s second presentation and I love how she has the students’ speaking parts written on the back of the prop. Very clever! The backdrop again works well for me as a moderator of the event. (I know it isn’t about me, but it is helpful!) What I really enjoyed about this presentation is that a all the students can participate with a small speaking role. The black is a great backdrop!
Mrs. Douglas’ Class-Hubert Invents the Wheel
Mrs. Douglas participated for the second time this year. Her presentation this year included a backdrop with the scene for Hubert. The student who was narrating was incredible. He had memorized the entire presentation and kept the skit moving along. I continue to be impressed by teachers who are actually moving into how to assess student participation in the online portion of the project within Moodle and in the videoconference.
Mrs. Berry’s Class-Earth Dragon Awakes

This was another version of Earth Dragon Awakes and it was presented as a newscast. It was so realistic. The anchors set up the story and the reporter on the scene was interviewing survivors of the earthquake. Check out the camera person. He did not have a speaking part, but was involved in the presentation and contributed to telling the story.
Mrs. Hamilton’s Class Double Identity
Pam Hamilton’s class took the cloning issue from the book and presented it in an engaging and creative way. The scene was in a lab where the “mad scientists” were playing cards and working on a cloning project. The class was darkened with some Christmas lights for effect. After the cloning experiment created an excessive amount of clones, they started dancing and telling silly jokes. At the end, they finished with a statement about the seriousness of cloning and the impact on our future. When they got to visit with their Baylor student, their first question was, “Do you think that cloning will become an acceptable practice during our lifetime?” Now that’s thinking!

Wow - great write-ups on these presentations Roxanne! These are a gold mine of ideas for Read Around the Planet too! Do you have a post somewhere that explains from start to finish how you pull this off? I keep learning such great ideas from you and this one looks like it’s also worth copying!
I was one of the Baylor students working with Ms. Hamilton’s class. I absolutely loved their presentation. The first question caught me off guard - I wasn’t expecting such a high-level question! This was a great experience, and I really enjoyed working with everyone!
