Bluebonnet Conference 2006: The Lost Post
November 18, 2007
Yes, this post is a YEAR late! See where it says, “today’s presentations”…that is really November 2006! I had trouble with the pictures last year and never quite figured it out.Anyway, I am working on Bluebonnet 2007 posts and it is interesting to see where we were this time last year. More to come tomorrow.
Today’s presentations were like watching live television productions…each group presented in a different style, but the audio was good and each was incredibly entertaining. The teachers get increasingly sophisticated with using the technology each year!
Gatesville ISD: SOS FilesPresented as a miniature play…the script is written by Mrs. Pearce’s students and the set is extremely detailed, much like a full theater production. Kim Pearce has created a list of jobs that she uses with her students and now that is being used by Janine Lim with Read Around the Planet!

McGregor ISD: Project MulberryMrs. Douglas’s class created a PowerPoint with photos that showed the action from the book. We saw the PowerPoint as the students read a script…it was the first time a class had done this and it was quite effective! The students read a script with a great deal of expression…quite impressive!

Hillsboro ISD: The Forging of the Blade
Pam Hamilton’s class presented their story in a skit format with students performing the roles. This is the most common format for longer, chapter books. It was apparent that the students really enjoyed the performance.

Clifton ISD: Sixteen Years in Sixteen Seconds
Presented as a series of athletes who were able to achieve great things despite HUGE challenges…the images were clear and the students read about each one with the refrain, “In America, you can achieve anything if you set your heart to it!” The students were all dressed in red, white, and blue and the backdrop made this an outstanding and powerful presentation. ![]()

Fairfield ISD: The Giant Rat of SumatraPresented as a mixture newscast and student created projects. I loved the close-up of the weather map! Also, students showed models made from Legos and other materials. Excellent use of camera angles.

Gatesville ISD: The Lightning Thief
Again, a longer novel presented as a skit with an incredible amount of detail as you can see from this photo. Kim has an eye for what will look good on camera and involves all of the students in the presentations. Well done!
