Day 4 JAZZ Facilitator Notes

Date August 2, 2007

  • 8:00-8:30 AM (Pre-local time)
Connect to Janine’s bridge and lurk in connection between Michigan/Namibia cultural exchange. Discovered that my participants were skyping with their buddies in the other sites talking about the presentation.
  • 8:30-9:00 AM (Local Time)
Continued watching Namibia connection and working on connection with Ted from Phonoscope…actually, Shane was back today, so I handed the phone to him and HE worked with Ted. :-)
  • 9:00-11:00 AM (ASK Program)
Jim Wentzloff presented ASK program to us and read The Wall by Eve Bunting. We interviewed Don and then I led the debrief. What I forgot was to point out all the different ASK spin-offs and how to register for them. Janine’s site lost Internet so we did not see them again until guest speakers.
  • 11:00-11:30 AM (Local Time)
Direct instruction on the difference between collaboration, project, and content provider and how to find stuff to do. Mentioned that the original uses of vc in K-12 was for Dual Credit classes, shared classes and staff development. In Texas, we are either last or next to the last in using our network and videoconferencing units for classes; however, we are toward the top in usage for student projects and collaborations for K-12 students.

  • 11:30-12:00 PM (Lunch)
  • 12:00-1:00 PM (Guest Speakers)
    CSD and NCOESC
  • 1:00-1:30 PM (Local Time)
Group continued clicking away in Skype and online…not sure what they were doing…I had forgotten to get the session for GT credit, so I was trying to get that finalized.
  • 1:30-2:30 PM (Small Groups)
Appears that all small groups are progressing right along…I only ended up with three small groups and they seem to be using good listening skills and contributing to the final projects.
  • 2:30-3:00 PM (Blog Time)
I was caught up in the Facilitator Chat and updating some links in the Moodle course and the groups came back into the main training room and all of them went to the blog, logged in and posted their comments. One participant left early and I saw her blog post come in about 8:30 PM tonight. Now, that is really awesome…she blogged from home. :-D

So, by now, you have been reading about what is going on in Waco this week…well, here we are!
