Collaboration or Project?

Date April 16, 2007

I have been musing about what we call collaborations and what we call projects. I am working with Janine to move our Mini-Jazz connections forward. We connected in January and had these great ideas about projects and then some of the projects did not move forward, so what is the difference between a collaboration and a project? Is there a difference? Should we even take the time to discuss it?

Collaboration

  • Work together to negotiate time and date that is mutually acceptable to both parties.
  • Share in idea and adjust as necessary.
  • Share with leadership and organization.
  • Develop on-going relationship.
  • No egos…good listening…sharing

Examples: 100th day of school, Read Around the Planet, Down in the Deep, Hong Kong Connections

Project

  • Set dates and times.
  • Often moderated to support newbies.
  • Pre-defined support materials available online.
  • Has a central person coordinating and mediating any issues.

Examples: Monster Match, Bluebonnet Conference, Holidays Around the World, ASK Programs, MysteryQuest, Texas History Mystery

Whatever you call it, make sure that you have that full email signature to facilitate written communications.
