Texas History Mystery, etc.
February 7, 2007
TCEA 2007 ~Angela Conrad is the videoconferencing coordinator with Humble ISD. She is known for sharing the idea of using avatars with webcams to connect to classes.
Humble ISD held the first “Texas History Mystery” this year modeled on the MysteryQuest model. This project is excellent for 4th and 7th grade Texas History.
Humble ISD Story
- Endpoints increased from 5 to 27 endpoints in one year. One of the endpoints is a desktop on the superintendent’s desk so that he can speak to districts easily from his desk.
- Use videoconferencing for model teaching so that the teachers can see exemplary teaching strategies with students.
- Monster Exchange with drawing monsters and not 3-D monsters like we do within the EDLINK12 network.
- Holiday Traditions ~all day conference where some classes will present and others view.
- 100 Day of School with presentations and had a lady who was 100 years old and the students got to interview her. They also read 100 words, danced for 100 seconds, and other things that classes were already doing in their class.
- Cheers ~ A first grade class teaches cheers to other classes. (I wish I had a way to show Angela doing the “Looking Good” cheer!) Angela got this class to share their cheers. Each day at 10:00, this class connects with another school to share the cheer with him.
Ideas: School to school for secondary, more content providers, now need a district bridge, want a V-Brick, increase more administrative uses to save on mileage.
As I attend sessions, I see many people talking more and more about collaborations like we teach in JAZZ. I know that we are on the right track and look forward to more collaborations in the future. Excellent presentation, Angela!
