Behind the Scenes

Date December 5, 2006

Today is the first day of Holidays Around the World presentations. This year about 80 classes are participating from 14 districts. You might be wondering what goes on behind the scenes to make this happen.

img_0404.JPGI create the handouts and coordinate with the site managers and the teachers. The site managers send me a spreadsheet with all the info and then I work my “puzzle magic”. So far, I have always been able to accommodate all the requests.

This is what it looks like. I have found that post-its are the easiest to be able to rearrange and make changes until it is set.

That is the preparation and organization, but the HUGE part of the success is due to Shane’s technical support. All sites are required to complete test calls with Shane and then the day of the conference, sites connect 15 minutes prior to their presentation time. Then the fun begins!

img_06011.JPG This is Shane in action…he monitors all of our video conferences. He creates a staging area where all sites join first. Once audio and video is verified, he moves them into the “live conference”. He makes sure that all sites are ready to go on time.

There is not much written about the technical support that is required or about the behind the scenes effort that makes these projects possible…so today I just want to thank Shane for all the extra effort he puts into making our conferences so successful. I know now why our program is growing so much and it is due to the fact that the technical support is top notch.

Thank you Shane!
